xx Arcana Affinity System (READ)
« Thread started on: May 5th, 2008, 12:03am »

As those of you who have played Persona 3 know, each Persona user has their own unique Arcana that defines their Persona. The Arcana is defined by their life and personality, generally, though it's merely a guideline for their Arcana.

You also are aware, that the main character's Persona are powered up by how close he gets to other people, of a specific Arcana. The closer he is to said person, the more powerful his Persona of that person's Arcana becomes. The system, on this site, will work in very similar ways.

There are 22 Arcana of the Major Trumps of the Tarot, and of those, 21 Arcana are available to Persona users. There can be more than one person of a single Arcana and, as non-Persona users also have their own Arcana.

This thread will explain the finer points of each Arcana and how the Arcana Affinity System works.

xx A Look at the Arcana

This list is more handy for Persona users than for non-Persona users, though it can help you decide how to create your character.

For Arcana that weren't used by Persona users, in Persona 3, the information provided was written by our merits and ideas. This is just a list of the Arcana and doesn't have any details. If you want to know more about your Arcana, do some research. Here's a very useful list of details.

xx Arcana Affinity System: The Social Aspect
« Reply #2 on: May 24th, 2008, 7:52pm »

Now, let's look at how the Arcana Affinity System(AAS) affects the overall RPing on this forum. There are three attributes to the system. Let's take a look at the details of this system.

Pt. I: The Social Aspect

The first attribute of the AAS is the Social Aspect. In order to keep the forum as close to the game as we possibly can, we came up with a unique way to do that. For those of you who don't know, Affinity means 'connected with'. As the Social Links in the game built the power of your Arcana, your power with Persona of that Arcana grew.

The same concept exists here, in a way. The way the Social Aspect of the AAS works is in how you react to a certain character outside of battle. There is a stat, called the Social Point(SP). This will be used to determine how you are related to a certain Arcana.

The more SP you have, for a certain Arcana, the more likely you are to want to team up with someone of that specific Arcana. Basically, the more you RP with a certain Arcana, the more points you get with that Arcana. And the more points you get with that Arcana, the more effective your team is. The SP aspect works on all persons of a certain Arcana, and not just one.

During each Social thread you do with, for example, an Empress Arcana person, the more your SP grows with that one. Each thread is worth 1 SP(each thread of a fair length. A one page thread is not enough(barring the length of the posts) to merit an SP). So for one thread of a worthy length, you will receive 1 SP for every Arcana type in that.

Each person will have a thread with their name on it, that shows their SP with each Arcana. If they haven't met someone of an Arcana, then that spot will be left blank or contain a '-'. Your own Arcana's Affinity is always Max so instead of a number, it will be left 'N/A'.

An example of what the thread will look like is below:

Name:
Takashima Ayame

Arcana:
Priestess

Persona:
Parvati

SP
Fool: 1
Magician: 3
Priestess: N/A
Empress: -

As you can see, the thread will list all 21 Arcana, and will be filled in as you grow in your social RPing. As the example shows, she has RPed in one lengthy enough thread to get a point with the Fool Arcana. She also has three points with the Magician. Her Arcana is Priestess so she can't have any points with that. And she hasn't RPed with an Empress, meaning she has no points with one of the Empress.

As this shows, it is better for her to RP with someone of the Magician, especially since she is more familiar with that Arcana than with Fool.

It should be noted that the maximum of SPs for any one Arcana is 250 SP. When you reach that number, your Affinity Thread will reflect that with 250(Max) written by that Arcana.

xx Arcana Affinity System: The Battle Aspect
« Reply #3 on: May 24th, 2008, 7:53pm »

Pt. II: Battle Aspect

The second attribute of the AAS is the Battle Aspect. For those of you who have been on an RPing forum before, this is the part of the system that determines how you and your Persona fight alongside your party members. And it also decides how you and your Persona grow in battle.

The Battle Aspect gains points less often than the Social Aspect, but it has way more benefits than the Social Aspect. The Battle Aspect grows as you traverse through Tartarus and fight alongside your partners. This aspect is stimulated by your Social Aspect. Like the Social Aspect gives you SP, the Battle Aspect gives you Battle Points(BP).

Every battle you take place in, helps give you a chance to gain a BP and this helps your Persona grow. The more BP you obtain, the more powerful your Persona becomes. Every 10 BP, your Persona can gain a new skill, and this trend continues. The BP are only used for skills and other such Persona stats, which will be expanded as we become more active.

The other part of the BP is leveling up your Persona's skills. This helps your skill choices.

The max amount of BP you can have is 150. The max amount of techniques your Persona can have is 8, and after that 8th, you can delete one as you go. The list of the skills won't be posted, but they are any skill from the game, within reason. Every 30 BPs, your Persona can learn the next level of skills.

The scale is below:

0-29 BP - Level 1 Skills
30-59 BP - Level 2 Skills unlocked
60-89 BP - Level 3 Skills unlocked
90-119 BP - Level 4 Skills unlocked
120+ BP - Level 5 Skills unlocked

Every level of skill can be chosen from once you get 120 BP, but obviously you're going to want the more powerful ones there. It is ultimately up to you. But every technique, after your initial ones, must be approved of before you can use them in battle.

Also, note, that there is a beginning limit to RPing in Tartarus during the Dark Hour, and the limit will remain but it will expand once you get further along. The BP will help with your 'stamina' as well. More details on this will come as our RPing spreads.

xx Arcana Affinity System: The Personal Aspect
« Reply #4 on: May 24th, 2008, 8:33pm »

Pt. III: Personal Aspect

The third attribute of the AAS is the Personal Aspect. This aspect is perhaps the most important part of making this system connect to the game. This is the Aspect that focuses on not your Arcana or your Persona's growth, but as the name suggests, you own growth and your growth with other people.

Unlike the Social and Battle Aspects, this Aspect only has 50 points, titled Personal Points(PP). These points occur very rarely but have the greatest value. These go, somewhat, along with both BPs and SPs. The focus on this point aspect, is for your relationship with other characters on the forum.

Every so often, you will get the option to go into a more in-depth social event. Usually a story of their past, a detail about a plan, or even a date. Side events(from the Velvet Room board) will also give you PP, every so often. This aspect has a broader range of details so there's no way to explain it deeply.

The effect of PPs is similar to the SP, but narrows it down. Instead of making you more powerful with someone of a certain Arcana, you're more efficient with a specific person. If they are of the same Arcana you are stronger with, then you'll be twice as effective as a team.

More details will come as ideas for PP worthy events.

xx Arcana Affinity System: Personal Aspect Activities
« Reply #5 on: Jul 7th, 2008, 12:15am »

Here is a list of the possibilities for gaining Personal Points. You should note that there are two main ways to gain the Personal Points.

One, is to do an activity, in which you gain a closer relationship with any of the characters you RP with or even ones you don't. These usually involve a deeper understand of their past, an event in where something is said that changes how they act around you(can be positive or negative, as some negative things will eventually become positive), or even a date, in which your relationship goes to the next step. These are called Interpersonal Events and can happen in any thread, that has one of the above events.

The Interpersonal Events gain 1 of a possible 50 points with that character.

Two, is to do a social club activity. These involve going to club functions and interacting with the various members of that club. These club activities are known as Social Events and happen in the 'After School Clubs' board.

The Social Events gain 1 of a possible 50 points with the club's Arcana. Each clubs have the following Arcana. These points can enhance your Social Points and even make your fighting alongside someone of that Arcana even the more powerful. There can be more than one Arcana for the club, but you can only gain one PP for each Social Event.

xx Frequently Asked Questions of the AAS

Here are some basic questions that may be asked about the AAS.

Q: Why are the max numbers of SPs, PPs, and BPs set as they are?

The reason the numbers are set, as they are(250 for SP, 150 for BP, and 50 for PP) for many reasons. One, it keeps the RP up and running, or at least, have a vast running time with a goal to work towards. Two, the numbers are larger, as they are easier to obtain. The SP can, theoretically, be earned in 250 threads of classroom work. But times it by 20(as your Arcana doesn't count towards SP), and it becomes a lot more.

Of course, you won't RP with everyone of every Arcana. The limit is more for SP. The limit on BP is just so you don't have to wait forever for a Persona get more powerful. The PP is just because of the broad range of subjects that could qualify as worthy of PP.

Q: Is it possible to earn more than one point per obtainment?

Yes and no. For the PP and BP aspects, you can only gain 1 point per time. BP will, on occasion, have a special circumstance, or even on some events. With PPs, will NEVER, repeat, NEVER have a chance to gain more than 1 point at a time.

SP, will, however, have a chance to give you more than 1 point at a time. If you are in a Social thread, with more than one person of the same Arcana, you can get more than 1 point at a time. If you are in a group of 4, and two of them are of the Fool Arcana, you will get 2 points, for the completed thread, for the Fool Arcana. You will only get multiple for that Arcana.

Q: How will we know about our obtained points?

The way to know about each obtained points differs. First, and foremost, your thread is will be updated as often as it can be, meaning, that your thread will be the most up to date place, on your overall points.

The second way, is about the SPs. The SPs will be told, when the thread is locked by any of the mods. It will tell you: how many total points you got and how many you got for each Arcana.

For the BPs, there will be no notification, except when you get one that would be a landmark(10, 20, 30, etc.) which will include stamina boosts, when that number is decided. There will also be a notification on the BPs gained through events.

For the PPs, there will be a notification, by a mod, when the thread is locked. As our job dictates us reading many of the threads, certain times you will receive notification of PP and SP, when the thread is locked.

Q: What board should I look for the details of my points on?

The Affinity Board located in the Velvet Room Category.

Q: Is that the only use of the Affinity Board?

No. The Affinity Board will contain more than just your points and the points of other members. It will also contain the thread for unique weapon discussion and it will hold a copy of this thread, in case you need a refresher.

Q: What about my technique approval?

The Technique Approval will take place in a thread, on the Technique Board Once your Persona is approved, please post their skill details there. After 10 points, you'll be able to make a new technique, or, after getting your 8th, change out your techniques. After every set of 30, you will be able to get a new level of skills.

All techniques must be described and posted on the technique approval thread, located on the Technique Board, and must be approved before use. You can use the same description as someone else, as long as you get their permission.

Q: Does my weapon classification count as a technique?

No. Techniques are what your Persona uses. Your basic attack is either slash, strike, or pierce and it can be nothing else. Your classification is your own unique skill but it is nothing more than a basic attack.

Q: Will my Persona be able to change form?

Yes, yes, and YES! In order to keep the game's basic form in place, this is going to happen. However, we haven't decided how to actually have this happen yet, so when that detail comes up, we will let you know.

Q: When will my thread be posted?

The moment you complete your character and the moment you complete your first RP thread, you will get your own thread.

Q: Who can I fight?

You can fight other Persona users as well as Shadows. Persona user battles can only take place during the Dark Hour, as well, but aren't limited to Tartarus and the city.

If you have any other questions regarding any of the details of the AAS, please don't hesitate PM me with them. I will answer you as soon as possible.
